The Honduras Ambassador for Humanitarian Aide, Guillermo Verde, visited the Port Isabel Rotary Club to thank them for everything they do in Trujillo, Honduras. Lincoln Oviedo not only interpreted for the Ambassador but also serves as the co-leader of Hands to Honduras, Inc. with Port Isabel Rotarian Tom Plumb. This year the Club sponsored work crews of 48 Rotarian and Interact volunteers from Texas, Vermont, New Hampshire, Virginia, and Florida. They helped villagers build 6 classrooms at 4 schools, provide power to four villages, build a 36,000 gallon water storage tank and a dam providing water to a community of 11,000 people, reforest a watershed, build latrines at 3 schools, and provide 150 computers to area schools, Next year's work trip--you do not need to be a Rotarian to join the group, will be in February, 2010. Next year's goal is to build 11 classrooms at 4 schools and build community water filtration systems for two barrios. Volunteers pay their own expenses and help with fundraising. Hands to Honduras has been working in Honduras since 1999. Interested persons can contact Tom Plumb at 956-943-1237 or go to the website at www.handstohonduras.com
